Think you're already amazed, alarmed or appalled enough by the state of US journalism today? Chew on this a while and think again.
Grieving New Hampshire widow who lost her man on 9/11 refuses the government's million dollar
hush money payoff, studies the facts of the day for nearly two years, and comes to believe the White House "intentionally allowed 9/11 to happen" to launch a so-called "War on Terrorism" for personal and political gain.
She retains a prominent lawyer, a former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania, who served with distinction under both Democrats and Republicans and was once a strong candidate for the governor's seat.
The attorney files a 62-page complaint in federal district court
(including 40 pages of prima facie evidence) charging that "President Bush and officials including, but not limited to Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Ashcroft and Tenet":
1.) had adequate foreknowledge of 911 yet failed to warn the county or attempt to prevent it;
2.) have since been covering up the truth of that day;
3.) have therefore abetted the murder of plaintiff's husband and violated the Constitution and multiple laws of the United States; and
4.) are thus being sued under the Civil RICO (Racketeering, Influence, and Corrupt Organization) Act for malfeasant conspiracy, obstruction of justice and wrongful death.
The suit text goes on to document the detailed forewarnings from foreign governments and FBI agents; the unprecedented delinquency of our air defense; the inexplicable half hour dawdle of our Commander in Chief at a primary school after hearing the nation was under deadly attack; the incessant invocation of national security and executive privilege to suppress the facts; and the obstruction of all subsequent efforts to investigate the disaster. It concludes that "compelling evidence will be presented in this case through discovery, subpoena power, and testimony
[that] Defendants failed to act and prevent 9/11 knowing the attacks would lead to??| an 'International War on Terror' which would benefit Defendants both financially and politically."
Press releases detailing these explosive allegations are sent out to 3000 journalists in the print and broadcast media, and a press conference to announce the filing is held in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia on November 26th (commemorating the end of the first futile year of the independent National 9/11 Commission).
Imagine the world-churning implications of these charges. Imagine the furor if just one was proved true. Imagine the courage of this bribe-shunning widow and an eminent attorney with
his rep on the line. Then imagine a press conference to which nobody came.
(Well, more precisely, imagine a press conference at which only FOX News appears, tapes for 40 minutes, and never airs an inch.)
Now imagine the air time, column inches and talk show hysteria that same night devoted to the legal hassles of Michael, Kobe, and Scott Peterson, and divide that by the attention paid to our little case of mass murder, war profiteering and treason. (OK, this is really a trick question because no number divided by zero yields any answers whatsoever, which evidently in this case is the result preferred.)
When you present documented charges of official treachery behind the greatest national security disaster in modern history and the press doesn't show, doesn't listen, doesn't write - just what in fact is really being communicated? That despite all the deaths, lies, wars, and bizarre official actions that flowed from 9/11 there's actually nothing there to be investigated at all? That addressing desperate victim families' still unanswered cries for truth is not a legitimate journalistic concern? That news will now be what the corporate media say it will be, so drink
your infotainment Kool-Aid and kindly shut up?
(While the 9/11 blackout is the most flagrant sign of current media dysfunction, it hardly stands alone. Where, for example, was our free and fearless press when Pentagon powerbroker Richard Perle confessed to a London audience last month that yes indeed, our war on Iraq was illegal as hell? He calmly explained that "in this case international law stood in the way of doing the right thing??| [it] would have required us to leave Saddam Hussein alone, and this would have been morally unacceptable."
(Guardian/UK, 11/20/03) And what news have we seen of the thousands of Depleted Uranium deaths and birth defects now desolating Afghanis, Iraqis and our own Gulf War troops? And whose looking into the $1.2 trillion the Pentagon admits is "missing" or the half trillion in laundered funds now propping up our banks? And how many times have you seen it reported that unbid Iraq contracts have pushed the worth of VP Cheney's 433,333 Halliburton stock options to $26 million plus? But to return to 9/11, the funny business has just begun. If you thought press performance after JFK's death was a cynical farce, you ain't seen nothing yet.)
A few years back Harold Evans of the London Sunday Times, observed that the challenge facing American newspapers "is not to stay in business -- it is to stay in journalism.'' As corporations' authoritarian, profit-driven consciousness comes to dominate both media and governance, you can expect a lot more serial celebrity scandals and even less news on the way things work or anything that really counts.
There is a clear method and message in this obscurantist madness. All this media consolidation and tightening control is strategically aligned with deregulation, privatization, social program-gutting deficits and free trade regimes. They are all convergent tactics to enforce corporations' full spectrum dominance over democratic humankind. If your progressive or

The Boeing 757 and 767 are equipped with fully autonomous flight capability, they are the only two Boeing commuter aircraft capable of fully autonomous flight. They can be programmed to take off, fly to a destination and land, completely without a pilot at the controls.
They are intelligent planes, and have software limits pre set so that pilot error cannot cause passenger injury. Though they are physically capable of high g maneuvers, the software in their flight control systems prevents high g maneuvers from being performed via the cockpit controls. They are limited to approximately 1.5 g's, I repeat, one and one half g's. This is so that a pilot mistake cannot end up breaking grandma's neck.
No matter what the pilot wants, he cannot override this feature.
The plane that hit the Pentagon approached or reached its actual physical limits, military personnel have calculated that the Pentagon plane pulled between five and seven g's in its final turn. The same is true for the second aircraft to impact the WTC.
There is only one way this can happen. As well as fully autonomous flight capability, the 767 and 757 are the ONLY COMMUTER PLANES MADE BY BOEING THAT CAN BE FLOWN VIA REMOTE CONTROL. It is a feature that is standard to all of them, all 757's and 767's can do it. The purpose for this is if there is a problem with the pilots, Norad can fly the planes to safe destinations via remote. Only in this flight mode can those craft exceed their software limits and perform to their actual physical limits because a pre existing emergency situation is assumed if this mode of flight is used.
Terrorists in fact did not fly those planes, it is totally and completely impossible for
those planes to have been flown in such a manner from the cockpit. Those are commuter aircraft, not F-16's and their software knows it.
Another piece of critical evidence: the voice recorders came up blank.
The flight recorders that were recovered had tape that was undamaged inside, but it was blank. There is only one way this can happen on a 757 or 767. When the aircraft are commandeered via remote control, the microphones that go to the cockpit voice recorder are re routed to the people doing the remote controlling, so that the recording of what happened in the cockpit gets made in a presumably safer place. But due to a glitch in the system on a 757/767, rather than shutting off when the mic is redirected the voice recorder keeps running. The voice recorders use what is called a continuous loop tape, which automatically re passes itself past the erase and record heads once every half hour, so after a half hour of running with the microphones redirected, the tape will be blank. Just like the recovered tapes were. Yet more proof that no pilot flew those planes in the last half hour.
Eight of the hijackers who were on those planes called up complaining that they were still alive. I'd bet you never heard about our foreign minister flying to Morocco and issuing an official apology to the accused, did you? No, terrorists did not fly those planes, plastic knives and box cutters were in fact too ridiculous to be true. Any of the remaining accused have certainly been sought out and killed by now.
Our information IS controlled The cell phone calls from the aircraft could not have happened. I am a National Security Agency trained Electronic Warfare specialist, and am qualified to say this. My official title: MOS33Q10, Electronic Warfare Intercept Strategic Signal Processing/Storage Systems Specialist, a highly skilled MOS which requires advanced knowledge of many communications methods and circuits to the most minute level. I am officially qualified to place severe doubt that ordinary cell phone calls were ever made from the aircraft.
It was impossible for that to have happened, especially in a rural area for a number of reasons.
When you make a cell phone call, the first thing that happens is that your cell phone needs to contact a transponder. Your cell phone has a max transmit power of five watts, three watts is actually the norm. If an aircraft is going five hundred miles an hour, your
cell phone will not be able to 1. Contact a tower, 2. Tell the tower who you are, and who
your provider is, 3. Tell the tower what mode it wants to communicate with, and 4. Establish that it is in a roaming area before it passes out of a five watt range. This procedure, called an electronic handshake, takes approximately 45 seconds for a cell
phone to complete upon initial power up in a roaming area because neither the cell
phone or cell transponder knows where that phone is and what mode it uses when it is
turned on. At 500 miles an hour, the aircraft will travel three times the range of a cell phone's five watt transmitter before this handshaking can occur. Though it is sometimes
possible to connect during takeoff and landing, under the situation that was claimed the calls were impossible. The calls from the airplane were faked, no if's or buts.
I hope I made sense, if you have questions I will respond if possible. If I do not respond, please research this out yourself, search the boeing site, search the DARPA site,search were you have not searched before. Some of the information is classified and leaked by individuals, and it is also being scoured from the net. I have all of the
original documents on my computer to safeguard against this.
Please do not ignore this, because only Norad has the flight codes for those aircraft, we did 911 to ourselves. Hitler had the Reichstag, we have 911. If 911 proves to not be
enough to make the US citizenry set aside its rights for safety, the people who did 911 most certainly have access to nuclear material. 911 must be exposed for what it was
before that material is used.

What this stated in that article, " 9-11 planes exceeded software performance limits" or "Two 911 Jetliners EXCEEDED
Their Software Barriers" from Friends of Liberty, is incorrect regarding the 757's and 767's (and most of the rest of it).
The Boeing 757 and 767, as used in the hijackings, aren't fly-by-wire aircraft, they're flight control systems are hydraulic, not computerised, all 757's and 767's have are onboard computerised warning systems to suggest actions to the pilot, a voice saying "PULL UP! PULL UP!" and alarms when diving are too low etc.
I'd ask people to look into the Boeing 757 that crashed into a mountain ridge while trying to land at Cali, Colombia, in 1995, the 757's ground-warning system told the pilot to pull up, as he did, but the pilot did not retract the speed brakes as they climbed.
The only Boeing that is fly-by-wire with build in computerised pilot assistance/override is the 777. On the 777 though the pilot has the ultimate say, pilots in general don't like being flown by computers, they can override the onboard computers and their built-in soft limits i.e. maximum g, pitch, roll etc on the 777. The only airliners that have flight control computers that the pilot can't override are Airbus A320's and newer Airbus models - the most controversial airliners going among pilots.
As for the rest of it I can't even be bothered.
In my opinion it's disinformation presented to discredit (and confuse) those that are seeking for answers regarding 9/11.

"We could blow up a drone (unmannded) vessel anywhere in the Cuban waters. The presense of Cuban planes or ships merely investigating the intent of the vessel could
be fairly compelling evidence that the ship was taken under attack. The US could follow with an air/sea rescue operation covered by US fighters to "evacuate" remaining

message stating it is under attack by Cuban MIG aircraft. The transmission will be interrupted by the destruction of aircraft which will be triggered by radio signal. This will
allow IACO radio stations to tell the US what has happened to the aircraft instead of the US trying to "sell" the incident. It is possible to create an incident that will make it
appear that Communist Cuban MIGs have destroyed a USAF aircraft over international waters in an unprovoked attack. On one such flight, a pre-briefed pilot would fly
Tail-end Charlie. While near the Cuban island this pilot would broadcast that he had been jumped by MIGs and was going down. This pilot would then fly at extremely low
altitude and land at a secure base, an Eglin auxiliary. The aircraft would be met by the proper people, quickly stored and given a new tail number. The pilot who performed
the mission under an alias would resume his proper identity. The pilot and aircraft would then have disappeared. A submarine or small craft would distribute F-101 parts,
parachute, etc. The pilots retuning to Homestead would have a true story as far as they knew. Search ships and aircraft could be dispatched and parts of aircraft found. It is
understood that the Department of State is also preparing suggested courses of action to develope justification for US military intervention in Cuba."

War on terror - Landing by remote control doesn't quite fly with pilots

The military has been flying planes and landing them safely by remote control for years, but airline pilots say questions about security must be answered before that
technology is used aboard commercial jetliners to thwart hijackers the way President Bush suggested Thursday during a speech in Chicago.
"We will look at all kinds of technologies to make sure that our airlines are safe," Bush said at O'Hare International Airport. "... including technology to enable controllers to
take over distressed aircraft and land it by remote control."
Pilots said after the speech that though they support other proposals for airplane security that Bush outlined, the idea of aircraft being remotely controlled concerns them.
"If the good guys can take control of the plane" from the ground, said John Mazor, a spokesman for the Air Line Pilots Association, "maybe the bad guys can take control of it
too."
Taking control of a hijacked aircraft from the ground appears to be less feasible than other measures, he said.
"We would view that as a very--very--long-term type of undertaking," Mazor said. "There are enormous technical difficulties in trying to rig up an aircraft for that."
But companies that have designed such systems for the military say it wouldn't be difficult to adapt the technology for commercial aircraft.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. developed a remote-controlled reconnaissance plane for the Air Force called Predator, which flew in Bosnia during the conflict
there. Used by the military since 1994, it can be landed by pilots linked by satellite using controls on the ground or ordering an onboard computer to do the job.
Tom Cassidy, president and CEO of the San Diego company, said he sent Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta a letter shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"Such a system would not prevent a hijacker from causing mayhem on the aircraft or exploding a device and destroying the aircraft in flight," the letter said, "but it would
prevent him from flying the aircraft into a building or populated areas."
Cassidy said Thursday that a pilot aboard a commercial airliner could turn the plane's guidance over to ground controllers at the press of a button, preventing a hijacker--or
anyone else aboard--from flying the plane.
That system also would keep people on the ground from taking control of a plane away from the pilot, Cassidy said, because the pilot would first have to give up control.
Aircraft anywhere in the nation could be remotely controlled from just one or two locations using satellite links, Cassidy said. Those locations could be heavily fortified
against terrorists.
"The technology is available," Cassidy said. "We use it every day."

World War 2 - BQ-7 - Operation APHRODITE

Approximately 25 high-time Fortresses (mainly B-17Fs) were converted into radio-controlled flying bombs under the designation BQ-7. They were designed to be used
against German V-1 missile sites, submarine pens, or deep fortifications that had resisted conventional bombing.
The name of the USAAF officer who first thought of the idea of using war-weary B-17s as flying bombs has been lost to history, but the plan was proposed to Maj Gen
James Doolittle under the code name Operation Aphrodite, and he approved it on June 26, 1944. Responsibility for preparing and flying the drone aircraft was given to the
3rd Bombardment Division, which passed the job down to the 388th Bombardment Group, which in turn passed responsibility down to the 562nd Squadron based at
Honington in Suffolk.
The B-17s selected for the project were stripped of their normal military equipment and packed with up to 9 tons of explosives. Each pilotless bomber was fitted with a
radio-controlled flight system known as Double-Azon. A television camera was placed on the flight deck so that an image of the main instrument panel could be sent back
to a controlling aircraft. A second TV camera was installed inside the Plexiglas nose which gave a television monitor in the controlling aircraft a view of the ground so that
the robot machine could be directed onto the target. It was planned that a volunteer two-man crew would get the ship off the ground and fly it up to an operational altitude of
2000 feet, point the aircraft in the general direction of the target, arm the explosives for an on-impact detonation, hand over control to the director aircraft that was flying
above at 20,000 feet, and then parachute to safety while still over England. The canopy was removed from each aircraft, creating an open cockpit so that the two-man crew
could exit the plane with minimum delay once they had completed their tasks. The controlling B-17 would then direct the BQ-7 to the target area over the Continent and lock
its controls into a crash course into the target before turning to escape.
Upon completion of the training program, the squadron with its 10 drones and four command ships moved to an airfield at Woodbridge, which was a few miles from the
Suffolk coast northeast of London. They then moved to a small satellite airfield at Fersfield, 25 miles from Woodbridge, in a very isolated area that was well away from any
civilian areas.
The first mission took place on August 4. The target was a V-1 site in Pas-de-Calais. In the first phase of the mission, two motherships and two drones took off.
Unfortunately, one of the drones went out of control shortly after the first crewman had bailed out. It crashed near the coastal village of Orford, destroying two acres of trees
and digging an enormous crater. The body of the other crewman was never found. The second drone was successfully dispatched toward the Pas-de-Calais.
Unfortunately, clouds obscured the television view from the nose just as the drone approached the target site, and the plane missed the target by 500 feet. The second
phase of the mission fared little better. One robot BQ-7 had a control malfunction before it could dive onto its target and was shot down by German flak. The other one
missed its target by 500 yards.
On August 6, another task force of two robots and four command ships was sent out against V-1 targets in France. The crews parachuted clear of the aircraft without
incident, but within minutes one of the drones went out of control and crashed into the sea. The other drone decided to develop a mind of its own and the
explosives-packed aircraft began to circle the industrial area of Ipswich before flying out to sea, where it was harmlessly ditched.
After these early failures, General Doolittle decided that it might be a good idea to suspend further missions until it could be determined what was going wrong. Most of the
advisers pointed the finger at the Double-Azon radio control system and recommended conversion to a new system known as Castor.
The first *Castor* raid was an attack on targets at Heligoland. Again, it started badly--the parachute of the pilot of one of the drones failed to open when he bailed out, and
he was killed. Nevertheless, the drone made it all the way to Heligoland, but it crashed some 100 yards short of the target, probably a victim of flak. The next mission was
against targets on Heide/Hemmingstedt. The first robot crashed short of its target because of director disorientation caused by image distortion in the television monitor,
whereas the second robot malfunctioned and had to be ditched at sea.
Further sorties against Heligoland took place in October, but yielded little success. One drone was shot down by flak, whereas another went out of control and ended up
over the North Sea where it finally ran out of fuel and crashed into the water. A third drone failed to locate its target due to low visibility. The exasperated director crew pointed
the BQ-7 in the general direction of Berlin and let it go. The fourth drone actually crashed near its target and caused some serious damage and fairly heavy casualties.
On October 27, the headquarters of the US Strategic Air Forces in Europe concluded that these attacks by BQ-7s against hard targets were not yielding much success, and
decided that further targets for the BQ-7s would be industrial targets in large German cities. The first of these sorties was on December 5, the target being a group of
railroad marshaling yards west of Hannover. Because of bad weather, the first robot could not find the primary target, and was shot down by flak while approaching the
secondary target. The second robot failed to explode when it crashed, leaving the Germans with a relatively undamaged aircraft with a complete set of remote controls that
they could examine. The last Aphrodite mission was on January 20, 1945, against a power station at Oldenberg. Both drones missed their targets by several miles. After
this last effort, the *Aphrodite* concept was abandoned as being unfeasible.
In retrospect, the Aphrodite concept was a costly failure, and was often more dangerous to the crews which operated the drones than it was to the Germans. It turned out
that the hardware available in 1944 was simply not good enough to do the kind of job that was required.
Incidentally, the BQ-7 was NOT the plane responsible for the death of Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. The plane that killed JFK's older brother was a converted Consolidated
PB4Y-1, a Navy version of the B-24 Liberator.

From U.S. Civil War to Afghanistan: A Short History of UAVs

WASHINGTON, April 16, 2002 -- During the American Civil War, both sides tried to use rudimentary unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to Dyke Weatherington, deputy of the Defense UAV Office, Union and Confederate forces launched balloons loaded with explosive devices. The idea, he said,
was for the balloons to come down inside a supply or ammunition depot and explode. "It wasn't terribly effective," he said during a recent interview.
The Japanese tried a similar ploy late in World War II. They launched balloon bombs laden with incendiary and other explosives. The theory was high-altitude winds would
carry the balloons over the United States, where the bombs would start forest fires and cause panic and mayhem. The Japanese weren't able to gauge their success and
so called it a flop and quit after about a month.
The United States also tried a type of UAV during World War II called Operation Aphrodite. "There were some rudimentary attempts to use manned aircraft in an unmanned
role. The limitation there was, we didn't have the technology to launch these systems on their own and control them" Weatherington said.
Allied forces used the modified manned aircraft basically as cruise missiles. The idea was a pilot would take off, get the plane to altitude, ensure it was stable and then
pass control to another aircraft through a radio link before bailing out.
It was on one such top-secret Operation Aphrodite mission in 1944 that President John Kennedy's older brother, Navy Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., died when his bomber
mysteriously exploded after takeoff.
During the Vietnam War, technology started to make UAVs more effective. Weatherington said they were used fairly extensively and were called drones.
Large numbers of modified Firebee drones overflew North Vietnam. The aircraft, about the size of today's Predator UAV, launched first for simple day reconnaissance
missions at varying altitude levels. "They had conventional cameras in them," Weatherington said. "Later on, they were used for other missions such as night photo, comint
and elint, leaflet dropping and surface-to-air missile (SAM) radar detection, location and identification."
One of these Firebees hangs in the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, amassing over 65 individual missions. As a whole, Firebees flew over
3,400 sorties during the Vietnam War.
Several of the UAVs we know today owe much to Israel, which develops UAVs aggressively. The U.S. Hunter and Pioneer UAVs are direct derivatives of Israeli systems,
Weatherington said.
The Navy and Marine Corps operate the Pioneer UAV system has been in operation since 1985. Once during Desert Storm, Iraqi troops actually surrendered to a Pioneer.
At the time, the battleship USS Missouri used its Pioneer to spot for its 16-inch main guns and devastate the defenses of Faylaka Island, which is off the Kuwaiti coast near
Kuwait City.
Shortly after, while still over the horizon and invisible to the defenders, the USS Wisconsin deliberately flew its Pioneer low over Faylaka Island. When the Iraqi defenders
heard the sound of the UAV's two-cycle engine, they knew they were targeted for more naval shelling. The Iraqis signaled surrender by waving handkerchiefs, undershirts
and bed sheets.
Following the Gulf War, military officials recognized the worth of the unmanned systems. The Predator started life as an Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration
project. The program hurried the development of the Predator along, and it demonstrated its worth in the skies over the Balkans.
The Predator operates between 15,000 and 25,000 feet. It carries three sensor systems: a color video camera and synthetic-aperture radar.
The Air Force has also placed Hellfire missiles aboard the Predator. In the near future, the UAV might aim a laser at a target and attack it. The combat Predator can also
mark targets with its laser for other aircraft or read targets marked by other sources.
Predator is not an all-weather system, however. As an result of lessons-learned in the Balkans, Predator employs a simple anti-icing system allows it to exit the icing
condition but will not allow it to conduct continuous operations in the condition. The new Predator B has a number of characteristics that will better allow it to deal with a
wider range of environmental events including icing conditions.
The Global Hawk is a jet-powered UAV taking to the skies over Afghanistan. Still under development, it is at the same stage the Predator was when it first flew over Bosnia.
The Global Hawk operates around 60,000 feet, and its suite of sensors is akin to what the U-2 reconnaissance plane carries.
Global Hawk does not carry a very sophisticated signal intelligence system, Weatherington said. But, tests show the Global Hawk has great potential in this area and the
Air Force continues to develop its full capability.
Persistence is a unique capability for UAVs, Weatherington said. The Predator can stay in the air for up to 40 hours. The Global Hawk -- at ranges measured in thousands
of miles -- can loiter in an area for more than 24 hours.
So what's up for the future in UAVs? The Air Force and Navy are designing and testing combat UAVs. The Army is developing a tactical UAV called Shadow 200. This will
give leaders "over-the-hill" surveillance capabilities. The Marine Corps has Dragon Eye, a small, hand launched UAV that can give small-unit leaders a picture of the
battleground.
Some UAVs under development will be "as small as your hand," Weatherington said. "In the future it may be that a small UAV could fly into the window of a building, land at
some innocuous location and observe activities."

Don Abbott, of Command Emergency Response Training, walks over to the Pentagon and extinguishes the flames. The Pentagon was a model and the "plane crash" was
a simulated one.
The Pentagon Mass Casualty Exercise, as the crash was called, was just one of several scenarios that emergency response teams were exposed to Oct. 24-26 in the
Office of the Secretaries of Defense conference room.
On Oct. 24, there was a mock terrorist incident at the Pentagon Metro stop and a construction accident to name just some of the scenarios that were practiced to better
prepare local agencies for real incidents.
To conduct the exercise, emergency personnel hold radios that are used to rush help to the proper places, while toy trucks representing rescue equipment are pushed
around the exercise table.
Cards are then passed out to the various players designating the number of casualties and where they should be sent in a given scenario.
To conduct the exercise, a medic reports to Army nurse Maj. Lorie Brown a list of 28 casualties so far. Brown then contacts her superior on the radio, Col. James Geiling, a
doctor in the command room across the hall.
Geiling approves Brown's request for helicopters to evacuate the wounded. A policeman in the room recommends not moving bodies and Abbott, playing the role of
referee, nods his head in agreement.
"If you have to move dead bodies to get to live bodies, that's okay," Abbott says as the situation unfolds.
Geiling remarked on the importance of such exercises.
"The most important thing is who are the players?" Geiling said. "And what is their modus operandi?" Brown thought the exercise was excellent preparation for any potential
disasters.
"This is important so that we're better prepared," Brown said. "This is to work out the bugs. Hopefully it will never happen, but this way we're prepared."
An Army medic found the practice realistic.
"You get to see the people that we'll be dealing with and to think about the scenarios and what you would do," Sgt. Kelly Brown said. "It's a real good scenario and one that
could happen easily."
A major player in the exercise was the Arlington Fire Department.
Our role is fire and rescue," Battalion Chief R.W. Cornwell said. "We get to see how each other operates and the roles and responsibilities of each. You have to plan for
this. Look at all the air traffic around here."
Each participant was required to fill out an evaluation form after the training exercise.
We go over scenarios that are germane to the Pentagon," Jake Burrell of the Pentagon Emergency Management Team said. 'You play the way you practice. We want people
to go back to their organizations and look at their S.O.P. (standard operating procedure) and see how they responded to any of the incidents."
Burrell has coordinated these exercises for four years and he remarked that his team gets better each year.
Abbott, in his after action critique, reminded the participants that the actual disaster is only one-fifth of the incident and that the whole emergency would run for seven to 20
days and might involve as many as 17 agencies.
The emergency to a certain extent is the easiest part, Abbott said. He reminded the group of the personal side of a disaster. Families wanting to come to the crash sight for
closure.
In this particular crash there would have been 341 victims.

Mayor Giuliani — a former federal prosecutor who won notice for pursuing the Mafia — had relatives linked to organized crime, including a mobbed-up cousin who was
gunned down by FBI agents in 1977, a new book says.
Lewis D'Avanzo, a son of the mayor's uncle and a guest at Giuliani's first wedding in 1968, was a "ruthless and widely feared mob associate" who headed a massive
stolen car ring, according to FBI documents and interviews detailed in "Rudy! An Investigative Biography of Rudolph Giuliani," by Village Voice senior editor Wayne Barrett.
Due in stores next week, the book sketches a largely unflattering portrait of the clan, depicting his father, Harold, as a hothead and the "muscle" behind a brother-in-law's
loansharking operation, run out of a Brooklyn bar.
Along with cracking heads, it says the mayor's father served time in state prison for a stickup, rarely held an on-the-books job and once was a gunman in a mob shootout in
Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.
The book never makes clear how much of the family's alleged dark side is known to the mayor, who has talked lovingly of his father, who died in 1981 of prostate cancer —
the same disease that the mayor is fighting.
The mayor's spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel, said yesterday that Giuliani "hadn't seen the book and had no comment." On Tuesday, Giuliani defended his father as "a
complete man" who taught him the value of honesty, but the mayor refused to address questions about his father's alleged criminal past.
"The details of his life died with him," the mayor said.
And they almost stayed that way.
Barrett said a source told him the elder Giuliani had spent time behind bars, but the author couldn't find city court records documenting it.
Barrett eventually looked in the 1934 state prison archives in Albany and discovered a single sheet — a Sing Sing Prison receiving blotter — that listed Harold Giuliani at the
top of the page. On the next line, Barrett found the key to the story: Harold Giuliani's alias, Joseph Starrett.
Barrett then found all the New York court records under the name Starrett. Initial excerpts of the book appeared in Talk magazine and in this week's Voice; another excerpt
was released yesterday.
According to the book, Giuliani's cousin Lewis D'Avanzo was known as "Steve the Blond" and listed as armed and dangerous in FBI bulletins. His criminal record included
a 10-year federal sentence for the armed hijacking of a truck loaded with $240,000 worth of mercury. The book alleges that he was suspected of taking part in several
murders.
D'Avanzo was gunned down by the FBI in October 1977, when he tried to run down an agent after being stopped on a warrant that accused him and two associates of
transporting 100 stolen luxury cars.
Quoting an unnamed friend of D'Avanzo, the book describes a 1962 shootout pitting a local mobster against the mayor's father and Leo D'Avanzo, Lewis D'Avanzo's father.
The book says Leo was later sanctioned by mob bosses for shooting at a Mafia member.
Born two years apart, Giuliani and his cousin attended the same elementary and high schools, but Giuliani's father forbade the two from spending much time together.
Giuliani met D'Avanzo's wife, Lois, only once — at the mayor's first wedding, to Regina Peruggi, the book says.
The book says Leo D'Avanzo, who was known in family circles as a black sheep, ran loansharking and gambling operations out of a Brooklyn bar where Giuliani's father
worked as a bartender.
In his role as debt collector, his father "broke legs, smashed kneecaps, crunched noses," the book says.
Leo D'Avanzo left town after the shootout, and gave the bar to Harold Giuliani, the book said.
Based on interviews with family members, the book also claims that Joan Ellen D'Avanzo, a cousin who at one time lived with Giuliani when he was a youngster, became a
drug addict who was beaten to death in 1973 at age 34. Her cause of death was listed as undetermined, but several family members said she was murdered.

S.F. attorney: Bush allowed 9/11

Stanley Hilton now figures his case is stronger because of a coalition of attorneys, victims' families and bipartisan legislators who gathered in Washington on Monday to
condemn the government's lack of action in preventing the Sept. 11 attacks.
Hilton is the San Francisco attorney who filed a $7 billion lawsuit in U.S. District Court on June 3 against President Bush and other government officials for "allowing" the
terrorist attacks to occur.
Among Hilton's allegations: Bush conspired to create the Sept. 11 attacks for his own political gain and has been using Osama bin Laden as a scapegoat.
Hilton said he has information that bin Laden died several years ago of kidney failure.
"I hope it will expose the fact that there are numbers of people in the government, including Bush and his top assistants, who wanted this to happen," Hilton said.
His class-action suit named 10 defendants, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld,
and Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta. Hilton said he represents the families of 14 victims and that 400 plaintiffs are involved nationwide.
White House spokesman Ken Macias and Department of Justice public affairs officer Charles Miller each said their departments were unaware of the lawsuit.
Hilton, Sen. Bob Dole's former aide, has been publicly critical of conservatives in books he has written about Dole and the Clinton sex scandal. Hilton, who said he has
sources within the FBI, CIA, the National Security Agency and Naval intelligence, demands Bush's impeachment and believes the truth will come out in trial.
Hilton claims the Bush administration ignored intelligence information, refused to round up suspected terrorists beforehand, and during the hijackings refused to disable
pilot controls and switch to a ground-based remote system.
He claims the government benefited from installing a puppet Afghan government friendly to U.S. oil interests.
Hilton also says Bush used bin Laden's antagonist image to create a public frenzy, which allowed the Bush administration to tighten its political grip.

Steve Patterson, 43, said he was watching television reports of the World Trade Center being hit when he saw a silver commuter jet fly past the window of his 14th-floor
apartment in Pentagon City. The plane was about 150 yards away, approaching from the west about 20 feet off the ground, Patterson said. He said the plane, which
sounded like the high-pitched squeal of a fighter jet, flew over Arlington cemetary so low that he thought it was going to land on I-395. He said it was flying so fast that he

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. - As investigators continued to search for clues to the crash of United Flight 93, people in this Allegheny Mountains hamlet were talking about a parallel
mystery that one man called "the damndest darn thing" he'd ever seen. In separate interviews Thursday, five residents who live and work less than four miles from the
crash site said they saw a second plane flying erratically within minutes of the crash of the Boeing 757 that took off from Newark two hours earlier Tuesday morning. Susan
Mcelwain of Stonycreek Township said a small white jet with rear engines and no discernible markings swooped low over her minivan near an intersection and
disappeared over a hilltop, nearly clipping the tops of trees lining the ridge. An official at the Cleveland Air Traffic Control Center in Overland, Ohio, which tracked Flight 93 as
it turned in the sky and tracked eastward from the Cleveland area, said "no comment" when asked if there was any record of a second plane over the crash site. "That's
something that the FBI is working on and I cannot talk about," said Richard Kettel, head of tower operations at the Cleveland center.

"There is no category of 'enemy airliners,' " a recently retired F.A.A. official said. He and others said they could not recall any instance in which a military plane fired on a
civilian one in the United States, though in 1983 a F-4 Phantom fighter that scrambled to intercept an unidentified target off Cherry Point, N.C., accidentally rammed it. That
plane was a private twin-engine propeller plane on the way home from the Bahamas, carrying seven people. An F.A.A. spokeswoman said earlier this week that there was
a policy for shooting down civilian airliners but would not divulge it. And shooting down a jet as large as a Boeing 757 or 767 raises other problems. One F.A.A. official said,
"If you keep it from hitting a government building, it's going to hit something else."

U.S. military sources have given the FBI information that suggests five of the alleged hijackers of the planes that were used in Tuesday's terror attacks received training at
secure U.S. military installations in the 1990s. THREE OF THE alleged hijackers listed their address on drivers licenses and car registrations as the Naval Air Station in
Pensacola, Fla.—known as the "Cradle of U.S. Navy Aviation," according to a high-ranking U.S. Navy source. The three foreign nationals training in Pensacola appear to be
Saeed Alghamdi and Ahmad Alnami, who were among the four men who allegedly commandeered United Airlines Flight 93.

Conspiracy theorists love 9/11

Hamburg - The smoke had still not cleared from the rubble of the World Trade Centre as the first conspiracy theory did its round.
Some people claimed the visage of the Devil was visible for a moment as the building collapsed. Then there were also claims that the French physician Nostradamus
(1503-1566) prophesied the attacks.
Lies and half-truths have a way of working themselves into people's minds although there is not a shred of evidence that anyone but a group of young men bent on terror
conducted the attacks.
Conspiracy books, especially those claiming the United States was the true author of 9/11, have been best-sellers, especially in Germany and France. There are dozens of
Internet sites claiming to broadcast the supposed "truth" about September 11.
"Put out a badly written book claiming a worldwide conspiracy and everyone will buy it," said Hans Leyendecker, a journalist at the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper of
Munich, recently.
"How come we are all so stupid?"
The more idiotic the questions, the more the authors preen over their supposed insight, Leyendecker reckons.
Remote control
"Did George W Bush prompt the attacks on Washington and New York so he could seize maximum power? Were the jets that slammed into the Twin Towers flown by
remote control from the White House? Did the president's brother, Jeb Bush, suppress evidence to help the family?"
After largely ignoring the theories, the German media has had a field day this week pointing up the absurdities of the allegations.
The cover of the news magazine Der Spiegel on Monday showed the burning World Trade Centre turned upside down, and the cover story was headed Panorama of the
Absurd and listed all the ways the conspiracy theorists had ignored or misinterpreted facts.
"They treat every seemingly inconsistent detail as a form of proof for their bogus theories," the magazine said.
"Instead of going out and digging for the missing facts, conspiracy theorists interpret the gaps in their own knowledge as evidence in its own right, that allows them to
insinuate manipulation by shadowy police and secret services."
The king of the German conspiracy theorists is Andreas von Buelow, 66, a lawyer who was Germany's minister of science more than 20 years ago.
World takeover
His prestige as a former state-secretary for defence and member of the parliamentary committee overseeing intelligence services has helped to sell his theory that the US
secret services steered the jetliners into the World Trade Centre and fired a cruise missile at the Pentagon to create the grounds for a US takeover of the world.
The most remarkable sales success has been a book by a Berlin journalist, Mathias Broeckers, 49, who did most of his research on the Internet and claims the attacks
were cooked up by the United States so it could invade Afghanistan and win an oil pipeline.
So far the book has reached its 31st printing and 130 000 copies have been sold. Zweitausendeins Verlag, the Berlin publisher, denies that the "research" is amateur.
Pubisher Lutz Kroth declares, "We think the public should be allowed to discuss the facts."
German conspiracy theorists met on Sunday in Berlin to swap ideas about September 11.
19% believe it
The German weekly newspaper Die Zeit conducted a survey earlier this year that found 19% of Germans now believe the Bush administration was the author of the attacks.
Among young people, the credulousness is even greater: nearly one third of those under 30 say it is "possible" the United States rained destruction on itself.
The leftist Berlin newspaper Taz, famous for blunt headlines, reported this with the heading, Germans have a screw loose. The result was a flood of letters to the editor
from conspiracy-minded readers.
Taz suggests anti-American sentiment is on the rise in Germany, blinding better judgement.
In France, conspiracy theorists are led by Thierry Meyssan, whose book September 11, 2001: The Awful Confidence Trick appeared in March 2002. He claims the World
Trade Centre could not have collapsed from plane strikes alone, and denies any jet hit the Pentagon.

A French book, The Awful Lies, ripped apart Meyssan's claims, but the theorist is still at it, with a new book entitled Pentagate.
Conspiracy theories have been widely reported in Middle East nations as well, but have made very little headway in the United States, where much of the population knew,
at least indirectly, someone who died in the jets, the two towers or the Pentagon.
Americans have been more susceptible to far-fetched books claiming the intelligence services could have prevented the attacks but were too lax, or that Saudi leaders are
posing as US allies while allegedly in cahoots with al-Qaeda.

Hijack 'suspects' alive and well
Another of the men named by the FBI as a hijacker in the suicide attacks on Washington and New York has
turned up alive and well.
The identities of four of the 19 suspects accused of having carried out the attacks are now in doubt.
Saudi Arabian pilot Waleed Al Shehri was one of five men that the FBI said had deliberately crashed American
Airlines flight 11 into the World Trade Centre on 11 September.
His photograph was released, and has since appeared in newspapers and on television around the world.
Now he is protesting his innocence from Casablanca, Morocco.
He told journalists there that he had nothing to do with the attacks on New York and Washington, and had been
in Morocco when they happened. He has contacted both the Saudi and American authorities, according to Saudi
press reports.
He acknowledges that he attended flight training school at Dayton Beach in the United States, and is indeed the
same Waleed Al Shehri to whom the FBI has been referring.
But, he says, he left the United States in September last year, became a pilot with Saudi Arabian airlines and is
currently on a further training course in Morocco.
Mistaken identity
Abdulaziz Al Omari, another of the Flight 11 hijack suspects, has also been quoted in Arab news reports.
He says he is an engineer with Saudi Telecoms, and that he lost his passport while studying in Denver.
Another man with exactly the same name surfaced on the pages of the English-language Arab News.
The second Abdulaziz Al Omari is a pilot for Saudi Arabian Airlines, the report says.
Meanwhile, Asharq Al Awsat newspaper, a London-based Arabic daily, says it has interviewed Saeed
Alghamdi.
He was listed by the FBI as a hijacker in the United flight that crashed in Pennsylvania.
And there are suggestions that another suspect, Khalid Al Midhar [AA77 that allegedly hit Pentagon], may
also be alive.
FBI Director Robert Mueller acknowledged on Thursday that the identity of several of the suicide hijackers is in
doubt.

Book: U.S. Military Drafted Plans to Terrorize U.S. Cities to Provoke War With Cuba

N E W Y O R K, May 1 — In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to
create public support for a war against Cuba.
Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas,
hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.
The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel
Castro.
America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and,
"casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."
Details of the plans are described in Body of Secrets (Doubleday), a new book by investigative reporter James Bamford about the history of America's largest spy agency,
the National Security Agency. However, the plans were not connected to the agency, he notes.
The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But
they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.
"These were Joint Chiefs of Staff documents. The reason these were held secret for so long is the Joint Chiefs never wanted to give these up because they were so
embarrassing," Bamford told ABCNEWS.com.
"The whole point of a democracy is to have leaders responding to the public will, and here this is the complete reverse, the military trying to trick the American people into a
war that they want but that nobody else wants."
Gunning for War
The documents show "the Joint Chiefs of Staff drew up and approved plans for what may be the most corrupt plan ever created by the U.S. government," writes Bamford.
The Joint Chiefs even proposed using the potential death of astronaut John Glenn during the first attempt to put an American into orbit as a false pretext for war with Cuba,
the documents show.
Should the rocket explode and kill Glenn, they wrote, "the objective is to provide irrevocable proof … that the fault lies with the Communists et all Cuba [sic]."
The plans were motivated by an intense desire among senior military leaders to depose Castro, who seized power in 1959 to become the first communist leader in the
Western Hemisphere — only 90 miles from U.S. shores.
The earlier CIA-backed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba by Cuban exiles had been a disastrous failure, in which the military was not allowed to provide firepower.The military
leaders now wanted a shot at it.
"The whole thing was so bizarre," says Bamford, noting public and international support would be needed for an invasion, but apparently neither the American public, nor
the Cuban public, wanted to see U.S. troops deployed to drive out Castro.
Reflecting this, the U.S. plan called for establishing prolonged military — not democratic — control over the island nation after the invasion.
"That's what we're supposed to be freeing them from," Bamford says. "The only way we would have succeeded is by doing exactly what the Russians were doing all over
the world, by imposing a government by tyranny, basically what we were accusing Castro himself of doing."
'Over the Edge'
The Joint Chiefs at the time were headed by Eisenhower appointee Army Gen. Lyman L. Lemnitzer, who, with the signed plans in hand made a pitch to McNamara on
March 13, 1962, recommending Operation Northwoods be run by the military.
Whether the Joint Chiefs' plans were rejected by McNamara in the meeting is not clear. But three days later, President Kennedy told Lemnitzer directly there was virtually no
possibility of ever using overt force to take Cuba, Bamford reports. Within months, Lemnitzer would be denied another term as chairman and transferred to another job.
The secret plans came at a time when there was distrust in the military leadership about their civilian leadership, with leaders in the Kennedy administration viewed as too
liberal, insufficiently experienced and soft on communism. At the same time, however, there real were concerns in American society about their military overstepping its
bounds.
There were reports U.S. military leaders had encouraged their subordinates to vote conservative during the election.
And at least two popular books were published focusing on a right-wing military leadership pushing the limits against government policy of the day. The Senate Foreign
Relations Committee published its own report on right-wing extremism in the military, warning a "considerable danger" in the "education and propaganda activities of
military personnel" had been uncovered. The committee even called for an examination of any ties between Lemnitzer and right-wing groups. But Congress didn't get wind
of Northwoods, says Bamford.
"Although no one in Congress could have known at the time," he writes, "Lemnitzer and the Joint Chiefs had quietly slipped over the edge."
Even after Lemnitzer was gone, he writes, the Joint Chiefs continued to plan "pretext" operations at least through 1963.
One idea was to create a war between Cuba and another Latin American country so that the United States could intervene. Another was to pay someone in the Castro
government to attack U.S. forces at the Guantanamo naval base — an act, which Bamford notes, would have amounted to treason. And another was to fly low level U-2
flights over Cuba, with the intention of having one shot down as a pretext for a war.
"There really was a worry at the time about the military going off crazy and they did, but they never succeeded, but it wasn't for lack of trying," he says.
After 40 Years
Ironically, the documents came to light, says Bamford, in part because of the 1992 Oliver Stone film JFK, which examined the possibility of a conspiracy behind the
assassination of President Kennedy.
As public interest in the assassination swelled after JFK's release, Congress passed a law designed to increase the public's access to government records related to the
assassination.
The author says a friend on the board tipped him off to the documents.
Afraid of a congressional investigation, Lemnitzer had ordered all Joint Chiefs documents related to the Bay of Pigs destroyed, says Bamford. But somehow, these
remained.
"The scary thing is none of this stuff comes out until 40 years after," says Bamford.

"A group of military and civilian US pilots, under the chairmanship of Colonel Donn de Grand, after deliberating non-stop for 72 hours, has concluded that the flight crews of
the four passenger airliners, involved in the September 11th tragedy, had no control over their aircraft. The report seriously questions whether or not the suspect hijackers,
supposedly trained on Cessna light aircraft, could have located a target dead-on 200 miles from take off point. Colonel de Grand said that it would be impossible for
novices to have taken control of the four aircraft and orchestrated such a terrible act requiring military precision of the highest order. A member of the inquiry team, a US Air
Force officer who flew over 100 sorties during the Vietnam war, told the press conference: 'Those birds (commercial airliners) either had a crack fighter pilot in the left seat,
or they were being manoeuvred by remote control.' In evidence given to the enquiry, Captain Kent Hill (retd.) of the US Air Force, and friend of Chic Burlingame, the pilot of
the plane that crashed into the Pentagon, stated that the US had on several occasions flown an unmanned aircraft, similar in size to a Boeing 737, across the Pacific from
Edwards Air Force base in California to South Australia [USAF Global Hawk]. According to Hill it had flown on a pre programmed flight path under the control of a pilot in an
outside station. Bob Ayling, former British Airways boss, in an interview given to the London Economist on September 20th, 2001, admitted that it was now possible to
control an aircraft in flight from either the ground or in the air. A further question raised by the inquiry was why none of the pilots concerned had alerted ground control. It
stated that all pilots are trained to punch a four-digit code into the flight control's transponder to warn ground control crews of a hijacking - but this did not happen. During
the press conference Captain Hill maintained that the four airliners must have been choreographed by an Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). This system can
engage several aircraft simultaneously by knocking out their on-board flight controls."

The younger Bush began his loyal service to these Zionist secret agents while still Governor of Texas. In Austin, he was given the "Jewish catechism and road map" by
none other than Abe Foxman, chief of the hate-filled spy agency, Jewish ADL. Then, Bush went over to Jerusalem where genocide mass murderer, Ariel Sharon, now Prime
Minister of Israel, gave him a personal indoctrination into what would be required of him as U.S.A. President.
The first step and requirement of the Zionist neocons for George W. was that he renounce his publicly stated belief that Jesus was the only path to salvation. This he did,

Pearle, appointed as head of the Defense Policy Board. Washington, DC insiders privately and revealingly call Pearle the "Prince of Darkness!" It was Pearle who
masterminded the Iraqi war, a war that was decided on before George W. Bush took the oath of office as President. Pearle is an associate of Henry Kissinger, a Jewish

Another Jewish neocon czar-type is Paul Wolfowitz, who monitors the work of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Michael Chertoff tells his lackey, John Ashcroft, what to
do in the Justice Department. George Tenet (real name: Cohen) heads the CIA and takes orders from the Israeli Mossad. There is also Elliot Abrams, running the show in
the stead of Secretary of State Colin Powell; others include Donald Kagan, Douglas Feith, Don Zakheim, Richard Haas, Kenneth Adelman, Steve Goldsmith, Edward
Luttwak, Robert Satloff, David Frum, Marc Grossman and David Wurmser.

Suspected Israeli Spies Held by U.S.
WASHINGTON — Some 60 Israelis, who federal investigators have said are part of a long-running effort to spy on American government officials, are among the hundreds
of foreigners detained since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Fox News has learned.
The Israelis, a handful of whom are described as active Israeli military or intelligence operatives, have been detained on immigration charges or under the new Patriot
Anti-Terrorism Law. Federal investigators said some of them failed polygraph questions inquiring about alleged surveillance activities against and in the United States.
There is no indication the Israelis were involved in the Sept. 11 attacks, but investigators suspect that they may have gathered intelligence about the attacks in advance and
not shared it.
A highly placed investigator told Fox News there are "tie-ins," but when asked for details flatly refused to describe them. "Evidence linking these Israelis to 9-11 is classified,
I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It is classified information," the source said.
An Israeli Embassy spokesman offered categorical denials, and said any suggestion of Israelis spying on or in the United States is simply not true.
But Fox News has learned that one group of Israelis spotted in North Carolina recently is suspected of keeping an apartment in California to spy on a group of Arabs who
the U.S. authorities are investigating for links to terrorism.
Numerous classified documents obtained by Fox News indicate that even prior to Sept. 11, as many as 140 other Israelis had been detained or arrested in a secretive and
sprawling investigation into suspected espionage by Israelis in the United States.
Investigators from numerous government agencies are part of a working group that has been compiling evidence in the case since the mid-1990s. These documents
detail hundreds of incidents in cities and towns across the country that investigators say quote "may well be an organized intelligence-gathering activity."
Investigators are focusing part of their efforts on Israelis who said they are art students from the University of Jerusalem or Bezalel Academy and repeatedly made contact
with U.S. government personnel by saying they wanted to sell cheap art or handiwork.
Documents say they "targeted" and penetrated military bases, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, dozens of government facilities
and even secret offices and unlisted private homes of law enforcement and intelligence personnel.
Another part of the investigation has resulted in the detention and arrest of dozens of Israelis working at kiosks in American malls, where they had been selling toys called
"Puzzlecar" and "Zoomcopter."
Investigators suspected a front. Shortly after the New York Times and Washington Post reported the detentions of Israelis on immigration charges last month, the carts
began vanishing.
Why would Israelis spy in and on the United States?
A General Accounting Office investigation referred to Israel as Country A and said, "According to a U.S. intelligence agency, the government of country A conducts the most
aggressive espionage operation against the U.S. of any U.S. ally."
A Defense Intelligence report said Israel has a "voracious appetite for information."
"The Israelis are motivated by strong survival instincts which dictate every facet of their political and economic policies," the DIA report said. "It aggressively collects military
and industrial technology and the U.S. is a high priority target.
"Israel possesses the resources and technical capability to achieve its collection objectives," the document concludes.

of the hit squad were sentenced to jail in Norway. Pike said assassinations send a dubious message: 'Assassination is not normally considered a state policy of
democracies. It's normally considered a policy of terrorist states and dictatorships.' The CIA had also been rocked by disclosures about its Phoenix Program during the
Vietnam War in which bounty hunters murdered an estimated 20,000 suspected communists. The ban didn't mean an end to CIA dirty tricks. Some experts say it just drove
