A visit to the CrimethInc website reveals them to be nasty little collectivist, monkey-wrencher wannabe "anarchists"
who speak what passes for the language of lefty protest nowadays. See their "operating instructions" for deploying these
stickers, where they decry private property. Still, they do this one thing interestingly well, as evidenced by this photo: the
isolated point they make in this sticker is true.

Did you notice that independent international observers called the recent
elections in Azerbaijan "the dirtiest in history"? A similar exercise in Georgia
has the citizens still enraged and demonstrating.
Meanwhile, here's someone's solution to the present, nasty issue of electronic
voting in America. Two things are now clear: this method is open to massive
abuse (hacking, fraud, mysterious computer problems), and the lead company,
Diebold, appears not to have clean hands even at this early stage.
If we do nothing, we'll probably just be chumps.

The Voting-Machine Industrial Complex

During the Cold War, the CIA, in the words of long-time agent Ralph McGehee, practiced the art of "deadly deceits." Throughout the Third World, the secret spy agency engaged in covert operations, blatant acts of economic destabilization and wanton acts of mass violence.
In the 1970s, Idaho Senator Frank Church's investigatory committee established that the CIA also engaged in so-called "benign" operations including rigging elections. The agency used the term "demonstration elections"--elections that are superficially democratic but the results manipulated by the CIA.
The Company did everything from stuffing ballot boxes, creating political parties, merging smaller political parties into large coalitions as in Uno in Nicaragua, paying death squads to intimidate voters and the occasional use of computer fraud. In the mid-80s, the Reagan and Bush administration used a computer to help their "man in Panama" and CIA asset Manuel Noriega gain electoral support; they backed dictator Ferdinand Marcos when he brought in the pre-programmed election tapes in the middle of an election to turn his sure defeat into a fixed victory. The people of the Philippines didn't accept the computer results as credible, but Reagan and Bush argued it was necessary to preserve our "traditional" relationship with the brutal dictator. Now that we have the son of the former CIA director as President, we should recognize that the more reprehensible tactics of the CIA have been brought home
with the Bush dynasty.
What George Bush's energy friends from Texas, including Enron, did to the California economy through the massive "mega-watt" laundering of energy should be viewed as just another economic destabilization of an enemy regime.
In the Houston area, two Republican U.S. representatives were declared winners in the last election until it was discovered that the results were caused by a "faulty" and Republican-friendly microchip. When the proper chip was installed in the computerized voting machine the correct results were revealed: two Democratic victories.
The 2000 Florida election included all of the signs of a Third World CIA demonstration election.
Bizarrely constructed butterfly ballots, obscure third parties receiving unexplained and unfathomable votes and heavily Jewish areas voting unexpectedly for right-wing nationalistic anti-Semitic candidates like Pat Buchanan.
Remember that the exit polls predicted that Gore would win. Only when the psych-ops operation at Fox News changed that call did some people begin to believe in the myth of the Bush victory.
What began as covert operations in the Third World are now overt practices by the Bush administration in the United States.

Take for example the August 14 letter from Walden O'Dell, Chief Executive of Diebold, Inc., pledging that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its votes to the President next year." Diebold is one of three finalists currently seeking $100 million contract with the state of Ohio to provide computerized voting machines for the 2004 elections. Diebold has worked on its computers with Battelle, a well-established collaborator with the U.S. military and CIA.
Computer scientists from John Hopkins indicated that it would be relatively easy to hack into and manipulate the computer voting results in these machines.
The Seattle Times ran a feature story on Diebold in their August 21 edition. Bev Harris, a Seattle-area public relations company owner, recently uncovered "some 4000 files that included user manuals, source code and an executable files for voting machines made by Diebold, a corporation based in North Canton, Ohio."

 So, what do we have here other than the obvious denial by mainstream America?
We've got a CIA family, their corporate supporters working with CIA contractors at Battelle in order to bring flawed electronic voting to the U.S. with no paper trails and questionable exit polls. Recall that Battelle was also the contractor for Voter News Service (VNS) and failed to produce exit polls for the 2002 Congressional election.
Factor in the reality that, out of 435 Congressional districts in the U.S., only 39, or 9%, are actually competitive (when major party candidates won with less than 55% of the vote). Under our political system, also, the vast majority of Congressional seats are gerrymandered as "safe" or noncompetitive districts by the party that controls the state government. Eleven Texas Democrats are hiding out in New Mexico in hopes of thwarting another round of Republican district-rigging in their state. So little democracy is actually left.
Over the years, well-known and respected political theorists and leaders have warned of the rise of
authoritarianism. In the 50s, U.S. President Eisenhower warned of the "military-industrial complex." C. Wright Mills detailed the "power elite"--the convergence of the
top levels of the military, corporations and governmental leaders during the
Cold War.
In the 60s, Herbert Marcuse, who worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in WWII, pointed out that Americans' inability to think critically was making us a "one-dimensional" society with an authoritarian culture.
In the 70s, political scientists like William Domhoff and Thomas Dye began to document empirically the undemocratic and elitist nature of the U.S. political system.
In the 80s, Bertrand Gross warned of the rise of "friendly fascism."
In the 90s, William Grieder documented that the U.S. had the best democracy money can buy and asked the question, "Who will tell the people?"
But the most damning and lasting testimony that foretold the rise of America's new authoritarian demonstration democracy are still the massive volumes produced by the Church Committee. Back in the late 70s, the Agency's shadowy hands were all over the Idaho ABC Committee (Anybody but Church).

 Bush's election coup of 2000, our first obvious CIA-style demonstration election,
gave the Bush clan and their friends in the CIA the opportunity to field test whether or not you can blatantly steal an election in the U.S. just like Panama
or the Philippines.
The 9-11 attacks provided Bush, Jr. with the authority to push U.S. society massively to the right and pursue militarism and imperialism.
It also allowed Bush to test market neo-Nazi-style mass propaganda to the American public.
The voting machines are simply the final nail in the people's coffin.
The comatose electorate rests silently as the hammer of authoritarianism falls.

Note - I received this e-mail from Dr Chris Jordaan. It is a bombshell. This should be front page news, but is instead stuck in a publication in Holland.
Let me take you back to 1994. During the "First Democratic Elections" in South Africa, there was quite a ruckus made by different political parties over election irregularities. At the time, I remember hearing from friends who were involved in the actual counting process of strange incidents - of boxes stuffed with votes only for the ANC. Some of these reports made it to the press. I did not make a note of these incidents, and its quite a while back, so my memory is vague. But I heard enough stories to strongly suspect that something was not right.
I would also like to mention another story as well because I am in IT (Information Technology - Computers). A friend of mine told me how some businessmen in SA, in anticipation of the 1994 election imported into the country the most sophisticated vote-counting machines/computers available at the time. These businessmen were sure this was going to be needed and they prepared to sell these highly sophisticated, highly-accurate machines to the government.
But it was the ANC [African National Congress] that lobbied against MACHINE COUNTING back then!! The ANC came up with the (junk) argument that "they did not trust the machines!!" The ANC was the only political party which kicked against the use of machine-counting in that election. For those who were around back then... you will remember that in the end, the votes were counted by hand, and the process took a very long time... Days and days went by as the votes were counted.
What you also might not be aware of, is that most of the vote counting was actually done by ANC supporters.
As Americans will remember from the Florida vote-counting problems when Bush came to power - the Democrats were the ones who insisted on hand-counting, and bypassing the machines, etc. The minute you start doing that, you start affecting the impartiality of the process. I remember reading where a conservative in the USA was saying that hand counting is a traditional trick if you want to cheat.
There are many other stories that could be told from the 1994 elections, and even from modern ones in SA. For example, a Councilor for the DA here in Johannesburg, told me some months back that even now, at local elections the ANC spread the word in the townships that they know who you are voting for - and if you "dont' vote right" well... they're watching you. He told me that campaigning in the black townships - something that most of the political parties do these days - is extremely difficult because of certain deliberate OFF THE RECORD statements made by ANC officials to black people. Anyway, this story is fascinating. Finally, De Klerk comes out and tells us something about what really happened. It does not surprise me. The event we now know as "the First Thanksgiving" was in fact neither the
first occurrence of our modern American holiday, nor was it even a 'Thanksgiving"
in the eyes of the Pilgrims who celebrated it. It was instead a traditional English harvest celebration to which the colonists invited Massasoit, the most important sachem among the Wamapanoag. It was only in the nineteenth century that this event became identified with the American Thanksgiving holiday.
The association of the Pilgrims with the Thanksgiving holiday has a complicated history.
The holiday itself evolved out of a routine Puritan religious observation, irregularly declared and celebrated in response to God's favorable Providence, into an single, annual, quasi_secular New England autumnal celebration.The first national Thanksgiving was declared in 1777 by the Continental Congress, and others were declared from time to time until1815.
The holiday then reverted to being a regional observance until 1863, when
two national days of Thanksgivingwere declared, one celebrating the victory
at Gettysburg on August 6, and the otherthe first of our last Thursday in
November annual Thanksgivings.
Although the Pilgrims' 1621 harvest celebration had been identified as the first American Thanksgiving as early as 1841 by Alexander Young, the common Thanksgiving symbolic associations in the 19th century centered on turkeys, Yankee dinners and an annual family reunion, not Pilgrims. The now famous
1621 event had been in fact entirely forgotten until the 1820s, when the full
text of Mourts Relation (1622) with the reference to the feast was rediscovered. Mention of the Pilgrims brought the Landings or Myles, Priscilla, and John to mind, not Thanksgiving.
Moreover, whenever a Pilgrim, or more accurately, a generic 17th century puritan image appeared
in popular art in connection with Thanksgiving during the nineteenth century, it was not the now
familiar scene of English and Indians sitting down to an outdoor feast. On the contrary, the image
almost always portrayed a violent confrontation between colonist and Native American. It was only
after the turn of the century, when the western Indian wars were over and the "vanishing red man"
was vanishing satisfactorily, that the romantic (and historically correct) idyllic mage of the two
cultures sitting down to an autumn feast became popular. By the First World War, popular art
(especially postcards), schoolbooks and literature had linked the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving
indivisibly together, so much so that the image of the Pilgrim and the familiar fall feast almost ousted
the Landing and older patriotic images from the popular consciousness. This alliance also deflated Forefathers' Day, which sank in to insignificance even in Plymouth itself.
The Pilgrims and the "First Thanksgiving"
During the second half of the nineteenth century, Thanksgiving was more commonly symbolized by
its New England origins and its chief dinner constituent, the turkey, than by the Pilgrims' 1621 harvest
celebration. In addition to the ruralNew England theme, there were a diversity of contemporary and
historical illustrations and stories, including Thanksgivings on the battlefield, down south with African_Americans and in the urban slums,as well as a few generic colonial New England (and Old
England) Puritan images. It is surprising to note that when the colonists are represented, they are
less likely to be sharing their feast with their Native American neighbors, than illustrating European
and Native American conflict, indicated by a hail of arrows! Apparently the very real dangers of
the Indian Wars in the West produced a sense of fear and guilt which was expressed in this fashion, in graphic contrast with the familiar peaceful autumn pastorals that we associate with the holiday today.
It was only after the wars were over that a sentimental regard for the satisfactorily "vanishing Red Man" provoked a national change of heart in which Jennie Brownscombe could create her idyllic
"First Thanksgiving" (1914). Even then the image of the Thanksgiving "Pilgrim_puritan"fleeing a shower of arrows retained a popular appeal.
The association between Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims had been suggested as early as 1841 when
Alexander Young identified the 1621 harvest celebration as the "first Thanksgiving" in New England, but their importance among the holiday's symbols did not occur until after 1900. It was then that the
familiar illustrations of Pilgrims and Native Americans sitting down to dinner in peace andconcord
appeared widely in calendar art and on patriotic murals.
The real New England Thanksgiving, as is shown in the 1777 proclamation, bore less of a resemblance
to our modern holiday than the feasting and games of the Pilgrim harvest celebration. But when the
Victorians were looking for the historical antecedent of the contemporary Thanksgiving holiday, the
Pilgrim festival with its big dinner and charitable hospitality seemed theperfect match. The fact that the 1621 event had not been a Thanksgiving in the Pilgrims' own eyes was irrelevant. The Pilgrim
harvest celebration quickly became the mythic "First Thanksgiving" and has remained the primary
historical representation of the holiday ever since. The earlier Pilgrim holiday, Forefathers' Day
(December 21st, the anniversary of the Landing on Plymouth Rock), which had been celebrated
since 1769 faded in importance as the Pilgrims increasingly became the patron saints of the
American Thanksgiving.
The Pilgrims were cast in their Forefathers role to provide an example
of the close_knit, religiously inspired American community that people worried about the decline of basic values during the First World War period wished to instill in their descendants.
While retaining their Victorian symbolic virtues, the Pilgrims became usable history for generations of school children,
and played an important part in the Americanization of the
Northern and Easternimmigrants entering the country.
New elements and a new theme supporting this role were added to the Pilgrim Story as the
Pilgrims acquired their most recent and important popular association: the Thanksgiving holiday.
A modern image, the First Thanksgiving, showed Pilgrim families sitting down to a pastoral
celebration with the Native Americans in eirenic harmony, thus symbolizing the potential for unity
of different ethnic background.
Equally important at the turn of the century was the inspirational image of the Pilgrims
and the Native Americans sharing their communal meal in harmony. The country was
seriously concerned over immigration and the problems surrounding the integration
of the new citizens into American culture.
The Thanksgiving image of dissimilar ethnic
communities co_existing amid eace and plenty
was an irresistible symbol. The Pilgrims became
the exemplary immigrants whose Protestant
virtues made themthe preferred model for all
later arrivals.

‘God’s Instrument’ The Story of
Squanto BreakPoint with

Most of us know the story of the first Thanksgiving—at least, we know the Pilgrim version.
But how many of us know the Indian viewpoint?
No, I’m not talking about some revisionist, politically correct version of history. I’m talking
about the amazing story of the way God used an Indian named Squanto as a special
instrument of His providence.
Historical accounts of Squanto’s life vary, but historians believe that around 1608—
more than a decade before the Pilgrims arrived—a group of English traders sailed to
what is today Plymouth, Massachusetts. When the trusting Wampanoag Indians came
out to trade, the traders took them prisoner, transported them to Spain, and sold them
into slavery. It was an unima ginable horror.
But God had an amazing plan for one of the captured Indians—a boy named Squanto.
Squanto was bought by a well-meaning Spanish monk, who treated him well and taught
him the Christian faith. Squanto eventually made his way to Englandand worked in the
stables of a man named John Slaney. Slaney sympathized with Squanto’s desire to
return home, and he promised to put the Indian on the first vessel bound for America.
It wasn’t until 1618—ten years after Squanto was first kidnapped—that a ship was found.
Finally, after a decade of exile and heartbreak, Squanto was on his way home.
But when he arrived in Massachusetts, more heartbreak awaited him. An epidemic had
wiped out Squanto’s entire village. (Plimoth Mass ED.)
We can only imagine what must have gone through Squanto’s mind: Why had God
allowed him to return home, against all odds, only to find his loved ones dead?
A year later, the answer came. A shipload of English families arrived and settled on
the very land once occupied by Squanto’s people. Squanto went to meet them, greeting
the startled Pilgrims in English.
According to the diary of Pilgrim Governor William Bradford, Squanto “became a special
instrument sent of God for [our] good . . . He showed [us] how to plant [our] corn, where
to take fish and to procure other commodities . . . and was also [our] pilot to bring [us]
to unknown places for [our] profit, and never left [us] till he died.”
When Squanto lay dying of a fever, Bradford wrote that their Indian friend “desir[ed] the
Governor to pray for him, that he might go to the Englishmen’s God in heaven.” Squanto
bequeathed his possessions to the Pilgrims “as remembrances of his love.”
Who but God could so miraculously convert a lonely Indian and then use him to save a
struggling band of Englishmen? It is reminiscent of the biblical story of Joseph, who was
also sold into slavery—and whom God, likewise, used as a special instrument for good.
Squanto’s life story is remarkable, and we ought to make sure our children and
grandchildren learn about it. Sadly, most books about Squanto omit references
to his Christian faith. But I’m delighted to say that Eric Metaxas has written a wonderful
children’s book called Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving. I highly recommend
it. It will teach your kids about the “special instrument sent of God” who changed the
course of American history.

School Shootings and White Denial

I can think of no other way to say this, so here goes: white people need to pull our
heads out of our collective ass.
Two more white children are dead and thirteen are injured, and another "nice" community is scratching its blonde head, utterly perplexed at how a school shooting the likes of the one yesterday in Santee, California could happen. After all, as the Mayor of the town said in an interview with CNN: "We're a solid town, a good town, with good kids, a good church-going town…an All-American town." Yeah, well maybe that's the problem.
I said this after Columbine and no one listened so I'll say it again: white people live in an utter
state of self-delusion. We think danger is black, brown and poor, and if we can just move far enough away from "those people" in the cities we'll be safe. If we can just find an "all-American" town, life will be better, because "things like this just don't happen here."
Well bullshit on that. In case you hadn't noticed, "here" is about the only place these kinds of
things do happen.
Oh sure, there is plenty of violence in urban communities and schools. But mass
murder; wholesale slaughter; take-a-gun-and-see-how-many-you can-kill kinda craziness seems made for those safe places: the white suburbs or rural communities.
And yet once again, we hear the FBI insist there is no "profile" of a school shooter.
Come again?
White boy after white boy after white boy, with very few exceptions to that rule (and none in the mass shooting category), decides to use their classmates for target practice, and yet there is no profile? Imagine if all these killers had been black: would we still hesitate to put a racial face on the perpetrators? Doubtful.
Indeed, if any black child in America – especially in the mostly white suburbs of
Littleton, or Santee – were to openly discuss their plans to murder fellow students, as
happened both at Columbine and now Santana High, you can bet your ass that somebody
would
have turned them in, and the cops would have beat a path to their doorstep.
But when whites discuss their murderous intentions, our stereotypes of what
danger looks like cause us to ignore it – they're just "talking" and won't really do
anything. How many kids have to die before we rethink that nonsense? How many
dazed and parents, Mayors and Sheriffs do we have to listen to, describing how
confused "normal" and safe their community is, and how they just can't understand
what went wrong?
I'll tell you what went wrong and it's not TV, rap music, video games or a lack of prayer
in school.
What went wrong is that white Americans decided to ignore dysfunction
and violence when it only affected other communities, and thereby
blinded themselves to the inevitable creeping of chaos which never
remains isolated too long. What affects the urban "ghetto" today will be
coming to a Wal-Mart near you tomorrow, and unless you address the
emptiness, pain, isolation and lack of hope felt by children of color and
the poor, then don't be shocked when the support systems aren't
there for your kids either.
What went wrong is that we allowed ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of security by media representations of crime and violence that
portray both as the province of those who are anything but white like us.
We ignore the warning signs, because in our minds the warning signs
don't live in our neighborhood, but across town, in that place where we
lock our car doors on the rare occasion we have to drive there. That
false sense of security – the result of racist and classist stereotypes – then gets people killed. And still we act amazed.
But listen up my fellow white Americans: your
children are no better, no nicer, no more moral,
no more decent than anyone else.
Dysfunction is all around you, whether you choose to
recognize it or not.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, and Department of Health and Human
Services, it is your children, and not those of the urban ghetto, who are most likely to use drugs. That's right: white high school students are seven times more likely than
blacks to have used cocaine; eight times more likely to have smoked crack; ten times
more likely to have used LSD and seven times more likely to have used heroin. In fact,
there are more white high school students who have used crystal methamphetamine
(the most addictive drug on the streets) than there are black students who smoke
cigarettes.
What's more, white youth ages 12-17 are more likely to sell drugs: 34% more likely, in fact than their black counterparts. And it is white
youth who are twice as likely to binge drink, and nearly twice as
likely as blacks to drive drunk.
And white males are twice as likely to bring a weapon to school as
are black males.
And yet I would bet a valued body part that there aren't 100 white people in Santee, California, or most any other "nice" community
who have ever heard a single one of the statistics above.
Even though they were collected by government agencies using these folks' tax money for the purpose.
Because the media doesn't report on white dysfunction .
A few years ago, U.S. News ran a story entitled: "A Shocking look
at blacks and crime."
Yet never have they or any other news outlet discussed the "shocking" whiteness of these shoot-em-ups.
Indeed, every time media commentators discuss the similarities
in these crimes they mention that the shooters were boys, they were loners, they got picked on, but never do they seem to notice
a certain highly visible melanin deficiency. Color-blind, I guess.
White-blind is more like it, as I figure these folks would spot color mighty damn quick were some of it to stroll into their community. Santee's whiteness is so taken for granted by its residents that the Mayor, in that CNN interview, thought nothing of saying on the one hand that the town was 82 percent white, but on
the other hand that "this is America."
Well that isn't America, and it especially isn't California, where whites
are only half of the population.
This is a town that is removed from America, and yet its Mayor thinks they are the normal ones – so much so that when asked about racial
diversity, he replied that there weren't many of different "ethni-tis-tities."
Not a word. Not even close.
I'd like to think that after this one, people would wake up. Take note. Rethink their
stereotypes of who the dangerous ones are. But deep down, I know better. The folks
hitting the snooze button on this none-too-subtle alarm are my own people, after all,
and I know their blindness like the back of my hand.

For many Americans, the 1950s were a docile decade. In U.S.
history books, the period is mostly portrayed as a mellow, orderly
one, especially in light of the social upheavals that followed in the
1960s. But for the CIA, the "I Like Ike" years were packed with
adventure and action, much of it conducted outside of the public's
view. Few programs were sheltered with more secrecy than the
Agency's mind control experiments, identified together with the
code-name MKULTRA.
Concerned about rumors of communist brainwashing of POWs
during the Korean war, in April 1953 CIA Director Allen Dulles
authorized the MKULTRA program, which would later become
notorious for the unusual and sometimes inhumane tests that the CIA
financed. Reviewing the experiments five years later, one
secrecy-conscious CIA auditor wrote: "Precautions must be taken
not only to protect operations from exposure to enemy forces but
also to conceal these activities from the American public in general.
The knowledge that the agency is engaging in unethical and illicit
activities would have serious repercussions in political and
diplomatic circles."
Though many of the documents related to MKULTRA were
destroyed by the CIA in 1972, some records relating to the
program have made it into the public domain, and the work of
historians, investigative reporters, and various congressional
committees has resulted in the release of enough information to
make MKULTRA one of the most disturbing instances of
intelligence community abuse on record. As writer Mark Zepezauer
puts it, "the surviving history is nasty enough."
The most notorious MKULTRA experiments were the CIA's
pioneering studies of the drug that would years later feed the heads
of millions: lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD. The CIA was
intrigued by the drug, and harbored hopes that acid or a similar drug
could be used to clandestinely disorient and manipulate target
foreign leaders. (The Agency would consider several such schemes
in its pursuit of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who they wanted to send
into a drug-induced stupor or tirade during a public or live radio
speech.) LSD was also viewed as a way to loosen tongues in CIA
interrogations. "

Hitherto, every Israeli government has objected adamantly to any form of Palestinian refugee repatriation. Even at Oslo, the 1993 agreement between Israeli and Palestinians on Interim Self-Government deferred the refugee issue to final-status negotiations,
a principle repeated in the 1995 Israel-Palestinian Interim Agreement.
None of the peace treaties between Israel and Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinians, have ever granted the refugees a right of return. It was recognized that the problem of refugees is an unavoidable consequence of war.
For Jordan, it would offer a welcome chance to be rid of disgruntled third-class citizens largely hostile to the throne, who have been denied the right to travel, open businesses or buy housing
and property, except through rapacious Jordanian middlemen.
If Sharon proves willing to allow this number of Palestinian refugees into Palestinian-controlled territory ahead of a permanent solution, he would have chalked up an epic departure from Israel’s conventional negotiating posture.

(IAP News) -- An Israeli professor and military historian hinted that Israel
could avenge the holocaust by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans.
Speaking during an interview which was published in Jerusalem Friday,
Professor Martin Van Crevel said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons.
"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals
are targets of our air force."
Creveld, a professor of military history at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, pointed out that "collective deportation" was Israel's only meaningful strategy towards the Palestinian people.
"The Palestinians should all be deported. The people who strive for this (the Israeli government) are waiting only for the right man and the right time. Two
years ago, only 7 or 8 per cent of Israelis were of the opinion that this would
be the best solution, two months ago it was 33 per cent, and now, according
to a Gallup poll, the figure is 44 percent."
Creveld said he was sure that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon wanted to deport the Palestinians.
"I think it's quite possible that he wants to do that. He wants to escalate the conflict. He knows that nothing else we do will succeed."
Asked if he was worried about Israel becoming a rogue state if it carried out
a genocidal deportation against Palestinians, Creveld quoted former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan who said "Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother."
Creveld argued that Israel wouldn't care much about becoming a rogue state.
"Our armed forces are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And
I can assure you that that this will happen before Israel goes under."

the policy document of 1920 known as the
Twenty-Five Points--explicitly foreshadowed the

The article as quoted from below explains that DEBKA is the effort of two Israeli reporters with many,
many contacts. And they don't deny that they have a natural Israeli bias, but they also say they don't
have an agenda. Read on to see what I mean.
A lot of the material on Debka.com is just plain scary, the kind of stuff that makes you want to
close your eyes and hide under your desk. On Sept. 14 there was an unattributed report of “
an estimated 30 to 50 suicide killers … waiting inside the U.S. for their orders to strike.” And
then there was another report (also unattributed) describing Osama bin Laden’s army as

that U.S. war planners were airlifting the 82nd and 101st Airborne to Pakistan, as well as
contemplating a campaign into Iraq. This was reported before the Bush administration
leaked that one of the hijackers may have been connected to Saddam Hussein.
As a result of information like this—and some pretty quick word-of-mouth in the U.S.—
has experienced a massive surge of traffic in the past two weeks. Since the Sept. 11
attacks, it has gone from 150,000 visitors a week to 250,000 per week, said Giora Shamis,
one of the two Israeli journalists who run the site. (Mr. Shamis and his partner, Diane Shalem,
also publish a weekly newsletter at $120 a year, which at the moment has 320 paying
customers.) Debka.com claims its readers include American military and intelligence
officials, as well as foreign correspondents covering the Middle East.
...So what is Debka.com’s mission in its dispatches from the murky world of intelligence and
counterintelligence? The two reporters acknowledged a pro-Israeli bias. “Let’s put it this way,”
Mr. Shamis said. “We are Israelis. So whatever bias is coming out of this, that is possible. It
doesn’t mean that we are presenting and defending the official Israeli points of view, certainly.
You can imagine that officials in Israel, the people who are in charge of whatever they call it,
information or propaganda or whatever … they don’t like us very much.”
Prior to the Sept. 11 attacks, Debka.com was, according to a Google search, most popular among
right-wing sites like WorldNetDaily.com, as well as Zionist supporters of Israel and, in a few cases,
religious apocalyptics who, one supposes, wanted a real-time account of the Book of Revelation.
And in any case, having an agenda does not necessarily mean that your information is always
inaccurate. Just ask Matt Drudge about that blue Gap dress.

On Monday (17 Nov), Pavel Borodin*, who's currently head of the Russian Eurasian Party and Secretary
General of the Russian-Belorussian Union, quoted Stalin in pre-election TV debates and reassured the
voters that "the Kremlin's voice will be heard loud and clear during the December 7 election."

For additional perspective, you'll be glad to know that a former head of the KGB, General Yevgeny Primakov, apparently is occasionally a consultant to the US Department of Homeland Security.**
On Monday, one of the Russian TV channels showed an interview with Primakov in which the "Old Fox"
said that he had no pity for the US troops in Iraq; that Americans were receiving in Iraq what they'd
deserved all along; that he had no inclination to help Americans, and that the United States must drink
the full cup ("ispit' polnuyu chashu") [of its own blood] in order to learn the painful lesson that unilateralism and pre-emption do not pay off in international affairs.***
Two days earlier, Primakov had been shown sitting next to Putin at the Russian Industrialists' Congress,
both of them smiling and talking confidentially. This is an ugly story.
Putin is merely a visible iceberg tip. The tragic fact is that the system is back.
Many Westerners hope that the obloquy and invective applied to the old Soviet Union were largely a
vocabulary of rivalry and anger. Sadly, anyone who actually spent time there was shocked into realizing
that despotic governance permeated almost every molecule of life.
The tsar/Soviet mentality hates individual freedom, personal responsibility, and America. It will seek revenge against and humiliation of its enemies over a long run.
The only people in Russia who dare speak out these days are the likes of Chubais, Nemtsov, and their
colleagues from the Union of the Right Forces (URF), as well as the exiled oligarchs such as Berezovsky and Gusinsky, plus Gary Kasparov. Of the hundred-fifty-odd million remaining, everyone else is either duped or afraid.
By now, anyone who sets out a "Freedom to Khodorkovsky" poster in a public place in Russia will be
arrested by the state security service for attempting improperly to influence the prosecution and the courts before the trial. This madness represents a fearful reversal of the political winds.

Also on Monday, Galina Novodvorskaya, a respected former dissident and "democrat of the first wave"
who's running on the URF ticket, inquired why the local election commission omitted from her officia
l biography reference to her ten-year imprisonment as a political prisoner in a gulag. Their reply was,
Show us some proof, such as a receipt from the Prisons Bureau that you actually served time there
and why.
In Stalin's time, people were not served papers; they were just whisked away and disappeared without a trace, certainly with no record for posterity. If people were released, they were thrilled to be alive and free --forget about paperwork.
So Novodvorskaya went to Lubyanka, the dreaded KGB-now-FSB headquarters in Moscow, where the FSB told her that since the KGB was no more, they were unable to answer her inquiry or provide her with any documentation. (Kafka.) Now she's presented to the electorate merely as a middle-aged French-language teacher with no mention of her honorable, dissident past. (Nightmare; or kashmarr, as the Russians say.)
A Russian friend of mine says that there are two taboos in today's Russia: one is Putin, the other is the
KGB. Everything and everyone else is fair game.

Rumsfeld.s plan to develop so-called .mini. nuclear weapons has many people
across the globe fearing the very worst.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is backing the creation of a new
generation of low-yield nuclear weaponsdubbed .mini-nukes.. The weapons
would be used to attack al Qaeda bases in mountainous regions of Afghanistan,
where conventional penetration bombs have so far failed to destroy the
organization.s underground camps.
Details are contained in a top-secret Pentagon document, Future Strategic
Strike Force. It has been produced by the Defense Science Board (DSB). It has
a Pentagon brief to .transform the nation.s armed forces to meet the demands
placed on them by a changing world order.. The weapons could be tested as
early as next year.
Last September, in a barely reported decision, the Senate eased restrictions on
nuclear testing at the army.s test range in Nevada. No new test has taken place
there since 1992. The DSB report was produced by a group of scientists
employed at Los Alamos and by Pentagon strategists.
They have concluded that in the war against terrorism, it is .essential to revamp
our nuclear arsenal. We envisage a completely new arsenal of small-scale
missiles whose explosive impact would be easier to control and which could be
targeted against terror groups and small aggressive states..
Though North Korea and Iran are not named, Pentagon sources say that the
.mini-nukes would be ideal for targeting them.. A copy of the report has
already been sent to Israeland its defense chiefs have expressed .a strong
interest. in ordering the mini-nukes. Rumsfeld has himself told senior Defense
Department officials that the need for a .bolder approach. in dealing with
America.s enemies is .now long overdue..
A senior Pentagon analyst said that Rumsfeld told the officials that there is an
.urgent need to discard our old Cold War thinking about nuclear weapons only
being weapons of mass destruction with widespread fallout. The fact is that
America.s nuclear capability is a hangover from those days when we had to
match the Soviets. What we need now are nuclear weapons that fit into our
new security needs. Mini-nuke fallout would be limited to the target area..
During President Bush.s visit to London, senior Department of Defense
officials, who were traveling with the president, met with their counterparts in
Britain.s Ministry of Defense to discuss the role Britain can play in having
mini-nukes replace the larger nuclear weapons stockpiled from the time of the
Cold War. Among the topics on the London agenda were an enhanced
mini-neutron bomb and a specifically designed .bunker buster, capable of
destroying terrorist cells deep underground..

Bush's Faustian Deal With the Taliban

Enslave your girls and women, harbor anti-U.S. terrorists, destroy every vestige of civilization
in your homeland, and the Bush administration will embrace you. All that matters is that you
line up as an ally in the drug war, the only international cause that this nation still takes
seriously.
That's the message sent with the recent gift of $43 million to the Taliban rulers of
Afghanistan, the most virulent anti-American violators of human rights in the world today. The
gift, announced last Thursday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, in addition to other recent
aid, makes the U.S. the main sponsor of the Taliban and rewards that "rogue regime" for
declaring that opium growing is against the will of God. So, too, by the Taliban's estimation,
are most human activities, but it's the ban on drugs that catches this administration's
attention.
Never mind that Osama bin Laden still operates the leading anti-American terror operation
from his base in Afghanistan, from which, among other crimes, he launched two bloody
attacks on American embassies in Africa in 1998.
Sadly, the Bush administration is cozying up to the Taliban regime at a time when the United
Nations, at U.S. insistence, imposes sanctions on Afghanistan because the Kabul
government will not turn over Bin Laden.
The war on drugs has become our own fanatics' obsession and easily trumps all other
concerns. How else could we come to reward the Taliban, who has subjected the female half
of the Afghan population to a continual reign of terror in a country once considered
enlightened in its treatment of women?
At no point in modern history have women and girls been more systematically abused than in
Afghanistan where, in the name of madness masquerading as Islam, the government in
Kabul obliterates their fundamental human rights. Women may not appear in public without
being covered from head to toe with the oppressive shroud called the burkha , and they may
not leave the house without being accompanied by a male family member. They've not been
permitted to attend school or be treated by male doctors, yet women have been banned from
practicing medicine or any profession for that matter.
The lot of males is better if they blindly accept the laws of an extreme religious theocracy that
prescribes strict rules governing all behavior, from a ban on shaving to what crops may be
grown. It is this last power that has captured the enthusiasm of the Bush White House.
Search.The Taliban fanatics, economically and diplomatically isolated, are at the breaking
point, and so, in return for a pittance of legitimacy and cash from the Bush administration,
they have been willing to appear to reverse themselves on the growing of opium. That a totalitarian country can effectively crack down on its farmers is not surprising. But it is
grotesque for a U.S. official, James P. Callahan, director of the State Department's Asian
anti-drug program, to describe the Taliban's special methods in the language of representative democracy: "TheTaliban used a system of consensus-building," Callahan said after a visit
with the Taliban, adding that the Taliban justified the ban on drugs "in very religious terms."
Of course, Callahan also reported, those who didn't obey the theocratic edict would be sent
to prison.
In a country where those who break minor rules are simply beaten on the spot by religious
police and others are stoned to death, it's understandable that the government's "religious"
argument might be compelling. Even if it means, as Callahan concedes, that most of the
farmers who grew the poppies will now confront starvation. That's because the Afghan
economy has been ruined by the religious extremism of the Taliban, making the attraction of
opium as a previously tolerated quick cash crop overwhelming.
For that reason, the opium ban will not last unless the U.S. is willing to pour far larger amounts
of money into underwriting the Afghan economy.
As the Drug Enforcement Administration's Steven Casteel admitted, "The bad side of the ban
is that it's bringing their country--or certain regions of their country--to economic ruin." Nor did
he hold out much hope for Afghan farmers growing other crops such as wheat, which require
a vast infrastructure to supply water and fertilizer that no longer exists in that devastated
country. There's little doubt that the Taliban will turn once again to the easily taxed cash crop
of opium in order to stay in power.
The Taliban may suddenly be the dream regime of our own war drug war zealots, but in the
end this alliance will prove a costly failure. Our long sad history of signing up dictators in the
war on drugs demonstrates the futility of building a foreign policy on a domestic obsession.
